Moto Razr 2022: Motorola reveals first sales milestone of its Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 rival
Motorola debuted the Moto Razr 2022 alongside the Moto X30 Pro and Moto S30 Pro. The foldable went on sale for the first time yesterday in China and appears to have earned quite the interest—if Motorola's shared numbers are anything to go by, at least.
On its Weibo page, the Chinese company revealed that the Moto Razr 2022 sold quite well in its first time on the market. The company confirmed that it sold over 10,000 units of the clamshell phone in just five minutes. That may not be a huge number—Xiaomi, for example, sold over 330,000 units of the Redmi K50 in five minutes earlier in the year—but some perspective is needed. Foldables just don't sell anywhere as much as traditional smartphones, and Motorola is hardly a juggernaut in that segment, with Samsung instead laying claim to that honor.
Either way, selling over 10,000 units of the Moto Razr 2022 in five minutes is evidence that demand exists for Motorola's latest foldable phone. In China, at least. The Razr 2022's biggest rival is Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip4, with both phones offering premium hardware. The Razr 2022 does have a significant edge in pricing, however. It starts at CNY 5,999 (US$890) and while the Galaxy Z Flip4 may start at US$999 in the US, it's a lot more expensive in China with an MSRP of CNY 8,499 (US$1260). Motorola will be hoping that massive price tag tilts the scales heavily towards the Razr 2022's favor in the Chinese market.
