Rumor | OnePlus 12R renders expose minimal design changes for upcoming sub-flagship Android smartphone
The 11R did so well from its early 2023 launch that OnePlus is releasing it again as the 12R - according to partners in leaks OnLeaks and MySmartPrice, at least. Their new renders do seem to show a device very like the 11's slightly smaller sibling, right down to the stubborn retention of curved edges in a world being taken over by flat-edged frames.
This putative R variant might even retain a curved display in this generation: a 6.7-inch 120Hz 1.5K AMOLED panel driven by the same standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 of the 11. In short, it might be the device erroneously referred to as the 11RT in an earlier leak.
The camera hump almost inevitably looks like that of the 11R (no alleged next-gen tweaks here) - although there may be an improved, 32MP telephoto lens behind one of those familiar circular cut-outs.
The 11R is also sold as the Ace 2 in China - accordingly, the 12R is also thought to become a Pro version of the same in the same market, even if it launches at the start of 2024 as rumored. Another typically reliable tipster, Digital Chat Station, claims to have found this version on Geekbench, performing on that benchmark as the OnePlus PJA110.
It has increasingly predictable, (yet still fairly premium) specs in this listing, 16GB of RAM to go with its 8 Gen 2 and Android 13 (although the possibility of OxygenOS 14 in the 12R is apparently also on the cards) included.
However, according to Digital Chat Station, it could have a brand-first, cutting-edge 24GB RAM/1TB internal storage configurations - which may or may not bring the Ace Pro/10T's 150W SuperVOOC selling point back with it.
The "12R", on the other hand, is allegedly in line for the 11-series' more standard 100W SuperVOOC charging tech - which, as it might be paired to an upgraded, "beefy" 5,500mAh battery, would look even slower by comparison.
