Xiaomi launches new Smart Door Lock 2 with push-to-open feature
Xiaomi has revealed the Smart Door Lock 2 in China. The company says it has worked to make this model quieter, with a fully automatic lock body reducing the noise by 12 to 13 dB. This has been achieved thanks to an auto-rebounding lock tongue, meaning you can push the door to open or close without turning the handle.
There are multiple ways to unlock the Smart Door Lock 2. A built-in fingerprint scanner opens the door in under 0.5 seconds, with 0.001% error and 0.52% rejection rates. You can unlock the door with NFC via compatible models like the Redmi Note, Xiaomi Mix 4 and Xiaomi Smart Band 8. Other methods include temporary and long-term passwords, Bluetooth and a physical key. You can control the gadget via the Xiaomi app, where you can also receive notifications for issues like the door being detected as open and the battery running low. The device can last up to 12 months and operate in temperatures from -25 to 55°C (~-13 to 131°F).
The Xiaomi door lock integrates with the Mijia smart home ecosystem, allowing you to link compatible devices; for example, you could set all the lights and heating to turn on when you arrive home. Other features include an integrated doorbell and an SOS mode, where pressing the fingerprint scanner triggers a call to a preset number. You can now pre-order the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 in China for 1,299 yuan (~US$178); when the presale event ends on December 10, the gadget will retail for 1,399 yuan (~US$192).
