Xiaomi recently presented not only its new Xiaomi Book 14 notebook on its global website, but also a simple WLAN repeater called Xiaomi WiFi Range Extender N300. Its presence on the website suggests a global launch, although no details about price or availability for markets outside China are yet known.
A low price similar to the Xiaomi Mi WiFi Range Extender Pro (just under US$8 on Aliexpress) is to be expected, as the new Xiaomi WiFi Range Extender N300 doesn't have too much to offer in the way of specs. The manufacturer has completely dispensed with modern WLAN technologies such as WiFi 6 or even the upcoming Wi-Fi 7, instead relying solely on IEEE 802.11b/g/n. The new WiFi repeater also does not transmit at 5 or 6 GHz, but only uses the 2.4 GHz frequency range.
Accordingly, the transfer rates of the Xiaomi WiFi Range Extender N300 are in the low range and are specified at up to 300 Mbit/s. Data is received and forwarded via the two 2x2 external antennas, which protrude from the compact white housing on the left and right. According to Xiaomi, up to 16 devices can be connected to the repeater at the same time.
There is a power plug on the back with which the repeater can be plugged directly into a socket. This blocks it completely - in the case of multiple sockets, the adjacent sockets should be covered.
Nevertheless, the new Xiaomi WiFi Range Extender N300 may be of interest to some people who simply want to expand their home WiFi network. Alternatively, there are many much more powerful WiFi repeaters on the market such as the B. TP-Link - RE605X, which, however, costs more than the likely-to-be inexpensive Xiaomi device.
