Eufy launches a new doorbell that doubles as a smart lock with a fingerprint sensor
Eufy has launched the Video Smart Lock on Kickstarter. The device combines three tools: a security camera, a video doorbell and a fingerprint activated smart lock.
The Video Smart Lock has a 2k security camera with a 160° field of view, plus four infrared lights to allow you to see people in the dark. The fingerprint sensor can recognise your fingerprint in less than 0.3s, with self-learning AI to increase the speed and accuracy of the scanner over time.
Ultra-thin fingerprint film ensures that the sensor works in all weathers, including rain and snow. The device works in temperatures from -22°F to 158°F (-30°C to 70°C), unlike the Ring and Nest doorbells which struggle in colder climes.
The gadget has video doorbell dual motion detection technology, combining AI technology with PIR and radar sensors to confirm who is at your door. The Video Smart Lock has Human, Pet and Vehicle detection to reduce false alarms. The device also has Loitering Detection to alert you of anyone hanging around your property.
Other valuable features of the Video Smart Lock include auto-locking and the ability to unlock your door from your phone or using a voice assistant such as Amazon Alexa. Data captured by the gadget is stored locally in your Chime free of charge.
The device is currently available to pre-order for US$199 (~€180) in the US, Canada and Australia. Eufy forecasts that it will start shipping the Video Smart Lock to these early customers in May 2022. When the gadget launches in June, it will cost US$399 (~€360).
