Xiaomi has launched the Mijia Curtain Companion, a smart adapter for the soft furnishing. Xiaomi claims the gadget is easy to fit, stating, “just hang and use, ordinary curtains become smart in seconds”. Xiaomi is currently crowdfunding the device via its Youpin platform.
The Curtain Companion can open and close curtains weighing up to 26 lbs (12 kg). Several versions of the gadget are available to suit different types of curtain rails, including the Roman pole, I-type and U-type tracks. The adapter’s lithium-ion battery lasts for up to four months with typical usage or six months with infrequent use.
The gadget has a timed opening and closing feature. Alongside this is Wake-up Mode which will gradually open your curtains to wake you up at a time of your choosing. A built-in light sensor and a related algorithm provide another way for you to control the natural lighting in your room intelligently.
While you can control the curtains manually via a hand pull, you can also operate them remotely. You can use the Mijia app or a voice control command such as “Xiao AI, open the curtains” to adjust your lighting.
The Mijia Curtain Companion currently costs ~US$47 (~€43). The price will rise to ~US$55 (~€50) after the crowdfunding stage. The device is currently only available to customers in China; it remains to be seen if Xiaomi will roll this product out to the rest of the world.
