Savvy cryptominer uses an Antminer S9 as a heating system for his Airstream travel trailer
Energy costs are skyrocketing in many regions around the world, which can undoubtedly become an issue for cryptominers whose ASICs and mining rigs often consume an enormous amount of electricity. However, a cryptominer from the United States has now documented his development of an ingenious and quite efficient Bitcoin mining build which involves a Bitmain Antminer S9.
According to a report by Cointelegraph, the creative mind behind this build is Bitcoin miner Michael Schmid, who likes to travel around the US state of Colorado in his Airstream caravan. He now uses his Antminer S9 to keep his dwelling warm after the regular propane gas heater started to fail intermittently. In simple terms, he placed the Bitcoin mining ASIC in a small box directly outside his travel trailer and attached a hose which feeds the warm air from the cryptomining system into his caravan.
This method not only cut his propane gas usage in half, the Antminer S9 also mines around 0.00006259 bitcoin per day. At the current BTC price, this amounts to roughly US$2.5 per day, which is almost exactly how much it costs to heat the entire Airstream caravan during the winter. Therefore, this unusual but ingenious Bitcoin cryptomining build is certainly viable from a financial point of view, but the heating system also turned out to be more practical as it can provide more constant room temperatures than the gas powered heating system.
More technical details on how to use a Bitcoin Antminer S9 as a heater for an Airstream travel trailer can be found in Schmid's lengthy Twitter thread.
