CPE devices are a potential option for consumers that want wireless internet connectivity in the absence of enough proximity to a commercial fiber cable or other conventional source of Wi-Fi - the latest generation of which has effectively been debuted by Qualcomm at MWC 2022. ZTE has lost no time in announcing a new piece of CPE that apparently supports these new specs.
The ZTE MC888 Flagship - apparently its product name as well as its description - uses a 5G connection to deliver its apparently upgraded speeds. The OEM asserts that they might reach 19 gigabits per second (Gb/s) under certain conditions, with 10Gb/s over an RJ45 cable.
ZTE claims that this is possible due to the CPE's new "rocket-ship" chassis, which contains "smart antenna X technology" that apparently has its own "intelligent turntable". It allows the MC888 Flagship's internals to enact an active form of signal tracking in real-time - on the other hand, once it identifies a strong, consistent mmWave beam, it can lock on to it for the best shot at its new top-end rated speeds.
The new antenna array is touted to deliver a maximal 10dBi gain. The is also rated for sub-6GHz 5G, as well as 4K QAM, access to the new 320MHz channels and support up to 256 individual connected devices.
All in all, ZTE seems confident that its latest CPE can support end-user demands such as 4-8K streaming, smart-home networking and any amount of downloads. The OEM now pitches it at commercial and industrial clients, and projects that it might be seen in consumer homes by the end of 2022.
