Leaked Xiaomi 12 series global pricing is unlikely to thrill fans

After releasing the Xiaomi 12 series in China at the very end of last year, it appears Xiaomi is finally set to bring the phone to the global market. A new leak has now also revealed purported pricing details for the phones, but fans are unlikely to be thrilled.

In a report by Pricebaba, the Xiaomi 12 series is said to start at €899, with the Xiaomi 12 Pro carrying a base price tag of €1,099. Supposedly, those figures are said to be for the 8/128 GB models of the two devices. The regular Xiaomi 12 model is said to have an 8/256 GB model, while the Xiaomi 12 Pro is tipped to come in an extra 12/256 GB flavor as well.

If the Xiaomi 12 series turns out to be priced as such, the phones are unlikely to be received warmly, as the Mi 11 debuted at €749 last year. The Xiaomi 12, on the other hand, sees a drop from a QHD+ to a FHD+ display and is generally not considered to be a significant upgrade on its predecessor. 

Even worse, however, is the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S22 starts at €849 in Europe—€50 less than the Xiaomi 12 is tipped to. It's going to be hard to justify buying a Xiaomi 12 over a Galaxy S22, so we're skeptical about the validity of this leak. It's a lot more likely that Xiaomi prices the vanilla 12 model at €799 instead, making for just a €50 price raise over the Mi 11, while also undercutting the Galaxy S22 by €50.
