The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has been put through several performance tests and has mostly floundered under sustained workloads. While most of those tests were carried out on the Motorola Edge X30, a new stress test comparing the Xiaomi 12 Pro to the OnePlus 10 Pro—with both sporting the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1—has now surfaced, with some less than stellar results.
Tested by TechTablets, the Xiaomi 12 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro had a mixed cameo on 3DMark's WildLife Extreme Stress Test. As expected, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1's poor performance on the Motorola Edge X30 isn't just down to the phone itself. The Xiaomi 12 Pro performed abysmally, with the phone shutting down the benchmark app about 17 minutes in. An overheating warning followed right after—the phone displaying temperatures as high as 47°C.
The OnePlus 10 Pro did finish the test but only after some severe throttling, with the phone dropping performance by about 37% over the duration of the stress test. We've seen similar numbers from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on the Motorola Edge X30, with that phone throttling by about 25% in a Genshin Impact test. The OnePlus 10 Pro turned out to be cooler than the Xiaomi 12 Pro, though, making a strong case for it being a much better implementation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
