Leak brings hype for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra featuring a hefty price tag and improved flagship chipset
Even till now, it remains unknown if Xiaomi plans to launch a Xiaomi 12 Ultra this year. Current information leans towards the company replacing the Mi 11 Ultra with the Mix 5 Pro as its absolute flagship, but it also looks like a phone in the same vein as what would be the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is also on the way.
According to word on the grapevine, Xiaomi does indeed plan to release the Xiaomi 12 Ultra later this year. It's likely that this device in question is the previously reported "Xiaomi 12U", which is internally codenamed "L2s" and will be positioned above the Xiaomi 12 Pro in the company's traditional flagship hierarchy.
Reportedly, this phone will make its grand debut in the second half of the year, and will be sold in Europe at the very least. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra, or Xiaomi 12U, will be powered by a TSMC-made version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. By all indications, that will be the SM8475—likely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. A 5x periscope lens is on the cards as well.
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra won't come cheap, though, as the source expects a starting price tag of CNY 5,999. That's about US$940 when converted, which means the phone can be expected to launch in Europe with a price tag in the region of €999.
