Xiaomi touted the custom-fit ceramic panel stuck to the back of the Mi 11 Ultra as extra-resilient and high-end even compared to the typical Gorilla Glass-sandwich build of most top-end smartphones at the mobile device's launch. Now, the OEM might be poised to do much the same in introducing the long-anticipated 12-series flagship.
The "12 Ultra" is now indeed tipped to inherit the trait of ceramic backing from its putative 2021 predecessor. Therefore, should Xiaomi really have decided to revisit this design choice again, it may have had to craft more particularly premium rear panels with wide, long windows towards their top ends, albeit for different reasons this time.
Accordingly, this new rumor, presented by ITHome in apparent partnership with Digital Chat Station, might raise concerns in some Mi fans of the 12 Ultra slipping out of their reach in terms of price.
On the other hand, there is also now word of the phablet coming in plain old glass as well, which might prove more amenable to a push of the order button should the super-flagship truly launch in the first half of 2022 as expected. Not only might these 12 Ultra SKUs be a little more affordable, they might also offer the expanded color options that tend to be missing in ceramic editions.
