Xiaomi MIUI code points towards impending Leica partnership as new Xiaomi 12 Ultra camera details leak
It seems that Xiaomi is preparing its applications for an upcoming Leica partnership. Rumoured since last year, Leica's equivalent collaboration with Huawei ended last year with the P50 series. Writing on MIUI Polska, Kacper Skrzypek has discovered references to Leica within the latest MIUI Gallery Editor app. For reference, the app version is v0.7.5, which Xiaomi includes with Chinese versions of MIUI.
As the screenshots below show, the app contains strings for four Leica-branded camera filters. Specifically, Xiaomi has added strings for Leica Monochrom, Leica Monochrom High Contrast (HC), Leica Natural and Leica Vivid. Incidentally, Skrzypek states that Xiaomi has not enabled these filters within v0.7.5 of the MIUI Gallery Editor app. However, their presence suggests that Xiaomi is working on something camera related with Leica.
Separately, @RODENT950 asserts that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra or the MIX 5 Pro will launch sporting 'co-developed with Leica' cameras. Purportedly, Xiaomi's next flagship will rely on a 50 MP Sony IMX8xx sensor that utilises Leica algorithms and has a 1/1.1-inch sensor.
Also, the leaker claims that the handset will support 8K video recording with Leica film master filters, along with high megapixel ultra-wide-angle and periscope zoom cameras. Xiaomi has not set a release date for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra or the MIX 5 Pro, but the former is expected to arrive within the next few months.
