Xiaomi has announced the Black Shark 5 RS, a smartphone that shares more in common with the Black Shark 4 Pro than the Black Shark 5 Pro. Accordingly, the Black Shark 5 RS retains the Black Shark 4 Pro's design, cameras, battery and chipset, among other features.

Xiaomi has revealed the Black Shark 5 RS, a cheaper option to the Black Shark 5 Pro. Fundamentally, the Black Shark 5 RS is cheaper than the Black Shark 5 Pro because of its last generation SoCs. Specifically, the Black Shark 5 RS relies on the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 888 Plus, the same chipsets found in the Black Shark 4 series.

The similarities between the Black Shark 5 RS and the Black Shark 4 series do not end there. For some reason, Xiaomi has re-used last year's design, unlike the entry-level Black Shark 5. Also, the Black Shark 5 RS has a 144 Hz AMOLED display that measures 6.67-inches across and a 4,500 mAh battery that supports 120 W wired fast charging. A 64 MP primary camera is on board too, along with a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 5 MP macro camera.

In other words, the Black Shark 5 RS has the same cameras as the Black Shark 4 Pro. The Black Shark 5 RS will be orderable from April 2 in China, starting at CNY 3,299 (~US$519) with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Additionally, the handset will be available with 12 GB of RAM and the same amount of storage for CNY 3,799 (~US$597). Seemingly, both configurations feature SSD and UFS 3.1 storage, rather than just the latter as is the case with the Black Shark 5.
