Motorola has now gotten its flagship Edge 30 Pro/Plus flagship smartphone to the global market; now, the OEM is rumored to be working on a vanilla 30 model to join it there. A device of this name has most recently surfaced on the Geekbench website in a leak that hints at a 5G nature and decent mid-range specs for the allegedly upcoming handset.
The "Edge 30", complete with its rumored code-name from an earlier leak (dubai), has been detected as running Android 12 with 8GB of RAM and a Qualcomm processor with 1 Cortex-A78 core clocked at 2.5GHz, which is the top speed here, compared to the 2.2GHz of 3 further A78s and the 1.8GHz of 4 Cortex-A55 cores. Its GPU has apparently been discovered to be an Adreno 642L - which, according to MySmartPrice, equates to a Plus version of the Snapdragon 778G.
Interesting as that prospect might be, 91Mobiles seeks to distract from it with hints at a second Edge 30 variant with a completely novel MediaTek Dimensity processor. This "MT6879" is said to be made of 2 A78s at 2.6GHz each and 6 A55s at 2.0GHz apiece, along with a Mali-G79 GPU (an upgrade on the closest-possible G78, perhaps). It might get an inaugural debut in a Motorola phone currently suspected to become the Edge 30 Dimensity Edition.
This is due to speculation that it will have many of the same external specs as the 30, but come with this rumored all-new MediaTek processor in place of the alleged Snapdragon refresh; thereby rationalizing its own alleged code-name, dubaiplus. However, should a device such as this truly succeed the Edge 20 in 2022 remains to be seen.
