While last year's Mi Mix Fold hardly turned out to be an amazing commercial success, that's about expected from a first-gen product in a non-traditional market. The company will follow it up with the Mix Fold 2 this year and new leaks provide some details of what to expect from the upcoming foldable.
As brought to light by Xiaomiui, the Mix Fold 2 could debut with an incredible folding mechanism that allows it to fold both ways. Current foldable phones allow a 180° fold angle but this rumor indicates that the Mix Fold 2 will be able to fold all the way back, in a manner akin to convertible notebooks.
This feature appears to be referred to in Mi code dug up by the source, which lends plenty of credence to the idea. Xiaomi has pushed smartphone design forward over the years with phones like the original Mi Mix and Mi Mix Alpha, so being the first to deliver such a folding angle would not be at all surprising.
According to Xiaomiui, the Mix Fold 2 will debut in June and will be exclusive to China. Chinese leaker It's Fat corroborates that information as well and indicates that the foldable phone will launch alongside the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, with mass production set to begin next month. Supposedly, a launch event will hold around June 20.
