Latest Xiaomi flip phone patent merges a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 with a Google Pixel 6
It’s likely that Xiaomi will produce a clamshell flip phone sooner or later, which may be part of a whole new line for the manufacturer (Xiaomi Flip, Mi Flip) or could even become a member of an already established range – Mi Mix Flip perhaps? However, it seems the company is being very careful about producing a design that will appeal to the masses, hence the numerous reports concerning Xiaomi’s clamshell phone development.
For instance, in mid-2021 there was a patent that showed how Xiaomi appeared to be working on a clamshell phone that was “inspired” by the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and the company’s own Redmi Note 9T. Later that same year, another patent turned up that revealed how Xiaomi’s flip phone had morphed into more of a direct copy of the Galaxy Z Flip3. Xiaomi’s latest effort shows a distinct design element “borrowed” from the Google Pixel 6.
As can be seen in the images below, which were posted on the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) website (shared via MySmartPrice), the Xiaomi flip phone now possesses a horizontal camera bar much in the same vein as the Pixel 6. Presumably, this flip phone would possess a dual-camera arrangement here with space for a flash, while the front could feature a camera-under-panel solution. Being a patent, it may never come to fruition (as demonstrated by the above-mentioned efforts), but it is inevitable the Xiaomi Flip or similar will at some point become a reality.
