The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is now said to be its OEM's first-gen flagship with Leica-branded rear cameras. Now, it is also now a top candidate for a cutting-edge liquid lens to the set-up in question. This second-gen component is now believed to have upgraded functions compared to the original found in the Mix Fold.

The first-gen Xiaomi foldable was also the first-gen Xiaomi liquid lens camera smartphone. This innovative technology allowed a single Mix Fold sensor to handle zoom and macro photography in one. Now, its potentially improved successor might be ready to launch in an upcoming top-end smartphone.

According to the eminent leaker Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi has been working on its new kind of lens since 2021. It now apparently has ultrawide-angle functions in addition to macro functions. Talk of this new development has led to speculation that it might feature in an upcoming top-end smartphone soon.

The 12 Ultra has of course arisen as a possibility in this regard. It is already connected to a new partnership with Leica; therefore, it might follow that one of the lenses in question has been upgraded in this way. This might be backed up by a comment of Digital Chat Station's that might be interpreted as meaning that the new liquid lens will be found in the "middle position".

This might line up with renders of the 12 Ultra depicting the phone as one with a circular camera hump. On the other hand, the Mix Fold 2 might be the one to follow its predecessor in having advanced imaging technology.
