Up until a week before today, (December 21, 2021) Xiaomi could not have been said to have much officially-released competition for its rumored Mi Mix Fold successor, other than Samsung's market-leading Galaxy Z Fold3 of course. However, OPPO has just thrown a spanner into those works with its compelling Find N.
This new device might prove a problem in this space, particularly for Xiaomi, as it virtually had a monopoly in its native China for foldable phablets capable of running Android. On the other hand, according to the latest rumors, the Mix Fold 2, Z Fold3 and Find N will have 1 major spec in common when all 3 are on the market.
They are all touted to rock main flexible AMOLED displays with top layers made of ultra-thin glass (UTG), all supplied by Samsung. UTG is that OEM's best idea of protection for foldable smartphones that preserves easy bending (and, thus, closing) radii thus far.
Therefore, the "Mix Fold 2" (also now said to have the model number 22061218C and the code-name L18) may prove as durable as its potential competition on its launch, at least. It is also now touted to use panels of 8.1 inches in diagonal length, with no word on whether it will retain its predecessor's markedly long and thin form-factor, or answer OPPO's new ideas with an upgraded footprint of its own instead.
