2022 has been predicted to be the year of the cheap foldable phone - or of the more affordable one, at least. However, according to the latest rumors, the first such device of this year has no intention of living up to this putative trend. A new leak purports to link the Honor Magic V's alleged flagship specs to equally premium prices.
This foldable phablet is said to come in configurations with 12GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of intenal storage. According to a new live image that allegedly captures an official, and possibly final, Honor launch presentation slide, they will cost 13,999 and 14,999 yuan respectively from launch.
Therefore, should the Magic V become available internationally, this could mean the base 256GB model might start at about US$2,195 and go up to a potential ~$2,253. This is even more than the Galaxy Z Fold3 in the US at its launch, and not that far off the price of its premium counterpart the Galaxy W22 5G or Huawei Mate X2 even in Honor's native China.
By contrast, the country's latest 'native' foldable, the OPPO Find N, launched for considerably less, as did the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold. Then again, the Magic V is tipped to outdo them with a newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. We will find out for sure at its debut on January 10, 2022.
