Xiaomi is rumored to have a Mix Fold 2 in the works for a release in 2022. Now, the alleged second-gen flagship phablet has popped up in another new leak by the reliable tipster Digital Chat Station. While the famous Weibo account now has a lot of things to say on this subject that many mobile tech fans may want to hear, there is also one major potential downside included in the new post.
Digital Chat Station now asserts that the Xiaomi "Mix Fold 2" will launch with a main display with a 2K resolution and a "high" refresh rate. The leaker also now purports to confirm that this panel will be driven by the "SM8450" (or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1) SoC.
The Mix Fold 2 is also now tipped to launch with improved usability along with this updated silicon, particularly in terms of handling. The OEM settled on a highly atypical footprint in its forebear (especially when closed); however, Digital Chat Station now claims that it has re-evaluated its industrial design this time around.
The Fold 2's dimensions now apparently mimic those of the Honor Magic V most closely, resulting in a "more square" main display that follows the trend set by the OPPO Find N for improved pocketability and crease-resistance.
However, this might imply that the second-gen Xiaomi foldable will launch with a smaller main display (whereas the OEM proudly boasted of beating Samsung in this regard with an 8.01-inch panel in 2021), especially if it has indeed dropped the 4:3 aspect-ratio of its predecessor.
