Mi MIX Fold lasts 180 hours in a continuous fold test for over 400,000 cycles
Despite its prohibitively high price, Xiaomi managed to move over 30,000 Mi MIX Fold units within a minute. Xiaomi's first-ever foldable seems to be quite resilient, too. One of the primary functions of a foldable smartphone is to fold. That too several thousand times, at least, during its lifetime. The company put a Mi MIX Fold through the paces (via Lei Jun on Weibo), and it passed with flying colours.
One unfortunate Mi MIX Fold tablet was folded and unfolded continuously nonstop for over a week. It lasted for over 400,000 cycles before finally giving in. Xiaomi even live-streamed the whole process for Chinese netizens. To put things in perspective, the original Samsung Galaxy Fold from 2019 lasted a little over 100,000 cycles before sustaining permanent damage. Interestingly enough, its successor had not been subject to such a test since its launch last year.
Xiaomi claims that the Mi MIX Fold can remain operational for over ten years based on the test. Then again, CNET, a neutral third party, tested the Galaxy Z Fold, whereas Xiaomi tested the Mi MIX Fol in house. That is quite a bold claim to make, especially for a device that can be undone with one misplaced piece of gravel.
