According to reports, Xiaomi will not equip its next flagship smartphone with as many rear-facing cameras as leaked renders suggest. Instead, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will debut with a triple camera and auxiliary imaging sensors, among other features.

It remains to be seen whether the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will receive a global release. However, Digital Chat Station has provided some insights into the handset's camera hardware. Based on various leaked renders, it seemed that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra would contain numerous rear-facing camera sensors, potentially five or six lenses.

Instead, the leaker claims that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will debut with three cameras, presumably primary, periscope and ultra-wide-angle sensors. Purportedly, Xiaomi will complement these cameras with new technologies and solutions, including dual image stabilisation. Digital Chat Station adds that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will utilise auxiliary imaging sensors, likely a 3D ToF sensor or two.

Incidentally, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra could be one of the first devices to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, a mid-generation refresh of its current flagship smartphone SoC. Reputedly, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra may feature a 4,860 mAh battery supported by 120 W wired and 50 W wireless charging. In the meantime, Xiaomi has confirmed that it will launch a new powerful Redmi Note 11 series handset next week, seemingly the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ with a Dimensity 920 SoC.
