Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus: Release window revealed as details about launch partners also leak
According to reports, Qualcomm has settled on a date to release its next flagship smartphone chipset, codenamed SM8475. Thought to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, the SoC will be an extension of the mid-cycle refreshes that Qualcomm began with the Snapdragon 855 Plus. For reference, Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 888 Plus in June 2021, nearly six months after the Snapdragon 888 debuted.
In comparison, Onsitego and Yogesh Brar expect Qualcomm to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus in early May, not late June like the Snapdragon 888 Plus. Unsurprisingly, Qualcomm will continue to base its mid-generation refresh on TSMC 4 nm nodes. While neither Onsitego nor Brar have provided other details about the chipset, they claim that the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus smartphones will appear 'as early as June'.
Allegedly, Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus and Xiaomi will be Qualcomm's first customers to release smartphones based on its Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus platform. Potentially, two of these smartphones could be the Motorola Frontier, which may also support 125 W charging, and the Xiaomi 12 Ultra or MIX 5 series. Incidentally, Onsitego claims that Qualcomm will announce new Snapdragon 700 series SoCs alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, but it has offered no details about any of these new mid-range chipsets yet.
