Gigabyte BRIX Extreme, 'the most powerful multitasking mini-PC,' unveiled with 12th Gen Intel processors, whisper quiet operation
Just as rumored back in the December, Gigabyte announced the launch of new mini-PC models in its BRIX Extreme series, or, as it calls it, "the most powerful multitasking mini-PC." Unlike the rumor, however, Gigabyte is releasing the Intel BRIX Extreme models first, with up to a Core-17 Alder Lake 12th Gen processors and up to 64 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM in two SO-DIMM slots. Gigabyte promises up to a 10% increase in GPU performance and 24% increase in multi-threaded performance from the BRIX mini-PC with Intel's 7nm chips compared to the previous generation. Needless to say, the Alder Lake chipsets bring with them the newest Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 96EUs integrated graphics subsystem, which should be enough for basic gaming duties.
Not only that, but a chassis redesign for the new 2022 BRIX Extreme series now features four display outputs, with HDMI 2.1 and up to 8K support, as well as 2.5G Ethernet, and WiFi 6E connectivity. In addition, there are no less than seven USB ports all around the mini-PC to plug peripherals into, ranging from regular USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A to a USB-C DisplayPort one.
- 1x mini DisplayPort
- 2x HDMI
- 1x USB Type-C Gen2 with DisplayPort Alt Mode
- 1x USB Gen2 Type-C
- 3x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A
- 2x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A
- 1x 2.5 Gbps Ethernet
- 1x 3.5 mm jack
- 1x DC-in
- 1x lock slot
The 2022 BRIX Extreme models are sold in tall and slim versions, with the latter having a smaller footprint, while the tall model offers extra 2.5” SSD/HDD storage upgrade options. If those ports and connectivity options are not enough, Gigabyte now offers a new I/O upgrade kit at an extra charge that sports another Ethernet connection, a RS232 communication port, and an M.2 2280 slot.
The 2022 BRIX Extreme mini-PC comes with a VESA bracket for wall mounting behind the biggest display in your house or business, too. Gigabyte also mentions that it paid special attention to the durability and quiet operation of the 2022 BRIX models:
When testing in the GIGABYTE Sound Lab, this all new 2022 BRIX ran at an almost undetectable sound level below 20dB, and that low noise level is maintained even when running heavy workloads where the sound level is still under 30dB. Moreover, when bleeding edge performance is needed, the 12th Gen Intel Core Mobile processor enables boost mode with a TDP up to 45W, and still the noise level tops out at 35dB.
Mum's the word on each 2022 BRIX Extreme model price just yet, but Gigabyte lists Core-i3 to Core-i7 versions, and says they will be hitting the shelves next quarter when the pricing details will be filled in.
