Qualcomm 10G Fiber Gateway Platform debuts to bring 10Gb broadband with Wi-Fi 7 to the home
Qualcomm has declared today (September 20, 2023) its "Wi-Fi 7 Day", and, as such, has introduced new technology to help broadband service providers bridge the gap between Passive Optical Network (PON) rated for 10G speeds and the customers that might well want them.
The new Fiber Gateway Platform Platform is thus touted "to enable 10Gb/s to and through the home" while also providing that "multi-Gigabit" Wi-Fi to "every device in the home", from smart TVs, security cameras and appliances to individual user smartphones or laptops.
Qualcomm also asserts that its Service Defined Wi-Fi technology is a big part of this package. It is described as a "groundbreaking cloud-to-device framework" backed to distribute (or "orchestrate") those next-gen services per individual home network requirements in a way that delivers the "quality of service" a customer might expect from a "10G" subscription.
The Service Defined Wi-Fi tech is also rated to make the UX delivered by a given gateway as particular as possible to its service provider, use-case or both - for example, Qualcomm hints that its latest Platform is capable of being used to make a convincingly gamer gateway in the future. It is projected to be available to industry customers by mid-2024.
