Lenovo Legion 9i: High-end gaming laptop announced with mini-LED screen and Wi-Fi 7
Lenovo has unveiled a new gaming laptop alongside its first-ever handheld gaming console. The Lenovo Legion 9i packs top-of-the-line hardware and includes a beefy cooling setup to keep the internals toasty. There isn't much of a choice in configurations, meaning one has to pay an exorbitant price for the privilege of owning one.
The Lenovo Legion 9i packs a 16-inch 3.2K (3,200 x 2,000) mini LED panel clocked at 165 Hz (3 ms GtoG response time). It is ideal for creators as well with its 100% DCI-P3/Adobe RGB colour gamut coverage. Other accolades include VESA DisplayHDR, Dolby Vision, and Nvidia G-Sync certifications.

There isn't much variety in the hardware configurations for the Lenovo Legion 9i. One gets an Intel Core i9-13980HX coupled with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090. One can pair it with 32 GB of DDR5 6,400 MT/s or 64 GB of DDR5 5,800 MT/s RAM and a a 2 TB NVMe SSD. Like most high-end gaming laptops, it comes with a 99.99 Wh cell that supports 330 Watt fast charging via the adaptor and 140 Watts via USB-C.
Both the CPU and GPU are quite power-hungry, which is why Lenovo teamed up with Cooler Master to design a new cooling system for the Legion 9i. It is called Coldfront and uses a metric ton of pipes to expel hot air from above the keyboard. Additionally, there are plenty of other vents to keep thermals in check.
I/O options include two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C port, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A port, an RJ45 Ethernet jack, a HDMI 2.1 port and a SD card reader. Both the Thunderbolt ports can also output display, meaning one can theoretically power three screens simultaneously.
The Lenovo Legion 9i is also one of the first gaming laptops to support Wi-Fi 7. It also has the company's in-house LA2 AI chip that sync with the keyboard RGB. A 1080p webcam with a physical privacy shutter is also thrown in. Those looking to buy one will have to shell out an eye-watering €5,000 for the laptop. It hits shelves in October 2023.
