Google Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series receive improved smart camera and video doorbell support
Google has announced a new preview version of the Google Home app that introduces new functionality for smartwatches. With the latest update, smartwatches running Wear OS 3 will receive more useful smart home camera notifications. Effectively, these improvements are limited to the Galaxy Watch5, Galaxy Watch5 Pro and the Pixel Watch, plus a few Fossil Group smartwatches that have received Wear OS 3.
Following the update, the Google Home smartwatch app will show a notification with a still image when a Nest smart home camera or video doorbell detects movement. However, Google will continue to restrict live video feed access to the Google Home smartphone app. Additionally, Google claims to have improved the speed with which video recordings and the camera feed can be accessed within the latest Google Home Public Preview for smartphones.
Moreover, the company now allows the organisation of favourites freely, but again only within the smartphone app and not its smartwatch counterpart. Please note that these new features are only available with Nest products released within the last two years. Google has not confirmed when these new Public Preview features will reach stable status, either. Nevertheless, Google allows anyone to sign up for the Google Home Public Preview program within the smartphone app. Please see Google's dedicated support document for more details.
