Ice Universe has reignited rumours about Samsung returning to the rotating bezel of older Galaxy Watch smartwatches with the Galaxy Watch6 series. Last seen on the Galaxy Watch4 Classic, the hardware-based solution brought various functionality benefits to One UI Watch and Tizen before it, such as the ability to scroll through lists or zoom in Google Maps. However, Samsung pivoted to a capacitive-based alternative last year across the Galaxy Watch5 series, with the Galaxy Watch5 Pro receiving a different implementation than the Galaxy Watch5.
According to the renowned leaker, the Galaxy Watch6 Pro will not return to its predecessor's design. Instead, Samsung will revert its premium smartwatch offering to its rotating bezel solution. Supposedly, the Galaxy Watch6 Pro will complement the bezel with narrower display edges, allowing it to look more modern than the Galaxy Watch4 Classic. This tallies with earlier rumours, in which the Galaxy Watch6 Pro is alleged to feature a 1.47-inch display, rather than the 1.4-inch one Samsung includes in the Galaxy Watch5 Pro.
The Galaxy Watch6 series should also rely on a new Samsung Exynos chipset, the first in three generations. As we discussed earlier this month, the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Pro are expected to arrive in the summer with the Exynos W980, albeit with perhaps only a meagre 10% performance improvement over the outgoing Exynos W920. While Samsung's larger smartwatch is currently thought of as the Galaxy Watch6 Pro, the jury remains out as to whether the Classic name will return too alongside its standout feature, though.
