Samsung confirms new camera features headed to Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra with next firmware update ↺
Samsung has outlined forthcoming changes for the Galaxy S23 series on its Korean language forums. While the company only brought the May 2023 set of security patches to its current flagships this month, it has various camera improvements planned for a future update. For context, the company last issued a camera centric update for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra at the end of March.
Now, Samsung has revealed that it will soon add a 2x zoom option when taking portrait shots; currently, the Samsung camera app provides 1x or 3x zoom levels. Presumably, this will correspond to a 12 MP lossless crop of the Galaxy S23 series' 50 MP mode, although the company has not confirmed that this is the case yet. Moreover, Samsung will deliver the same optimisations for video recordings. However, the latter feature may arrive after Samsung delivers the former.
Also, Samsung is expected to provide various night mode improvements, plus HDR vignetting issues. As it stands, Samsung's next camera-focused update should land next month. Typically, Samsung releases updates in its home market first, meaning that July may roll around before it issues equivalent updates globally.
