Ice Universe has provided more details about the Galaxy S23 series' next update. Discussed by the leaker last month, the update is said to contain numerous camera-specific changes. While the leaker seemingly misjudged Samsung's release schedule, the company has now officially confirmed various changes on its South Korean community forums.
According to Ice Universe, Samsung will deliver this camera-focused update with version number WE9 as an approximately 1.5 GB download. As the screenshot below shows, Samsung has added a 2x zoom in portrait mode, which is likely a 12 MP crop of a regular 50 MP photo. Theoretically, the results should be lossless, although that remains to be seen at this stage. Moreover, the same update should refine HDR photos and night mode within the Samsung Camera app.
In the meantime, Samsung will soon release WD3, a much smaller update. Specifically, WD3 will only add the option of transferring video calls between a smartphone and a tablet. Samsung has not revealed when WD3 will arrive yet. However, the company tends to take a few weeks to distribute updates globally, meaning that some markets are likely to receive WD3 and WE9 before others.
