According to a new report, making the Galaxy S23 Ultra cost Samsung ~39% of its current official retail value per unit. About 35% of this production cost went on the super-premium Android smartphone's class-leading new processor, with another ~14% going on its headlining rear cameras. The total bill is still less than that of an iPhone 14 Pro Max, at least.

Samsung still charges at least US$1,199 for its new Galaxy S23 Ultra via its official channels - however, according to Counterpoint Research, at least US$469 of that price has already gone on its bill of materials (BOM).

Somewhat predictably, the single component that cost the most to complete each S23 Ultra unit was found to be its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy platform. More surprisingly, the next most expensive part was not its rear cameras with their 200MP main shooter, but its Dynamic AMOLED 2X display direct from Samsung itself.

They reportedly cost Samsung US$64.60 and US$84.40 (or ~18% of the whole BOM in the case of the latter) respectively. Furthermore, this analysis applies to the base 8GB/256GB RAM model of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which also has 12GB/512GB SKUs priced at up to US$1,379 on Amazon today (May 31, 2023).

Nevertheless, Samsung has managed to keep the BOM for its most premium smartphone of 2023 (thus far) at a fairly reasonable level - especially compared to Apple and its US$501 outlay per 128GB iPhone 14 Pro Max.
