Google only announced Wear OS 4 a month ago, but Samsung has already opened its public beta program for the new OS. Distributed as One UI 5 Watch, the OS will likely arrive in stable form when Samsung releases the Galaxy Watch6 series. For reference, Samsung has now confirmed that its next Galaxy Unpacked event will occur during the final week of July.
In the meantime, it has released One UI 5 Watch Beta 1 for the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch5 series. Seemingly, Samsung has restricted the rollout of the first beta to those living in South Korea and the US. However, we imagine that it will eventually offer One UI 5 Watch Beta in other regions. For now, Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch5 series owners based in either of those two countries can register for One UI 5 Watch Beta 1 through the Samsung Members app.
Unsurprisingly, One UI 5 Watch Beta contains many of the changes that Google announced during its Wear OS 4 announcement. These changes include a new watch face format that should reduce performance overheads and improve battery life, as well as a backup and restore feature. One UI 5 Watch Beta 1 is approximately a 1.5 GB download. Please see the images below for Samsung's full One UI 5 Watch Beta 1 changelog.
