Huawei Watch 4 and Watch 4 Pro receive new features with new HarmonyOS 3 update
Last month, Huawei announced the Watch 4 and Watch 4 Pro, a pair of flagship smartwatches that debuted first globally before in the company's home market. Although initial Watch 4 series orders will not begin shipping in Europe until later this month, Huawei has already released a firmware update for both models. As the screenshot below shows, the update arrives as HarmonyOS 3.1.0.138, roughly a 1.83 GB download.
Incidentally, the update confirms that the Watch 4 series will rely on HarmonyOS 3. For some reason, Huawei has not included this piece of information on any its product pages. In any case, Huawei has added Health Glance, which monitors up to 10 health metrics over a 60-second period. Allegedly, the feature will provide a 'professional in-depth analysis', although the professional nature of this analysis remains to be seen.
Moreover, Huawei has added exercise, move and stand activity rings, mirroring Apple's functionality on watchOS. Likewise, HarmonyOS 3.1.0.138 activates TruSleep, as well as a golf app, a dynamic weather watch face, and the option of showing a new planet daily on the new planet watch face. Arguably the biggest change is the ability to register an eSIM, allowing you to call or message using either Watch 4 series model without needing a smartphone to hand.
