Garmin watches could soon have a YouTube Music app
A YouTube Music app could be coming to Garmin smartwatches. A report by 9to5Google claims that a source “familiar with the matter” had disclosed that the streaming service would roll out to a broader range of devices, with dedicated apps for Garmin wearables and Apple TV.
The YouTube Music app for Garmin should be downloadable via the Connect IQ store, where users can already choose from music streaming apps such as Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music. The app is expected to allow you to play music from your watch without needing a connection to your smartphone. This could be thanks to LTE-support, for watches such as the Forerunner 945 LTE. Alternatively, you might be able to download content, allowing you to play music without an internet connection. For context, Spotify Premium users are already offered the playlist, album and podcast sync feature for offline playback.
The source also suggested that the YouTube music app was planned to roll out to other wearables, though it did not call out any brands or models. Plus, the report claims that the company aims to improve the YouTube music experience with third parties such as Sonos. It remains unclear when this YouTube Music app for Garmin smartwatches, or the other rumored apps and updates, will be released.
