New Garmin sports features rumored for smartwatches and Edge devices
Rumors suggest that new sports features could soon reach Garmin smartwatches and Edge bike computers. According to a report by the5krunner, quoting @JohnW as a source, the new tools could reach the devices as soon as July or August.
First up is Course Climbs a feature that allows you to filter a map to show a specific climb category. These climbs are then highlighted on the map, where you can click to view more information, such as the distance or total ascent. You can then choose to add these climbs to your course. This will work nicely with the new ClimbPro Feature for Edge devices; the tool helps you to manage your energy levels based on climbs throughout your course. Another change is coming to watch faces, allowing you to cycle through data items by tapping the display. It is unclear what limitations there may be here, such as which data fields can be viewed or how they must be grouped.
You will also be able to set alarms or reminders via Garmin Connect on a broader range of smartwatches; this feature is already available for the Tactix 6 (delta) and Fenix 6 wearables. Plus, you will be able to use advanced filtering when selecting strength and gym workouts. It is expected that you will be able to filter based on muscle groups and equipment. Garmin has yet to confirm an official release date for these features or indicate which smartwatches and bike computer models will receive them.
