Samsung has revealed eligibility for its irregular heart rhythm notifications (IHRN) software. Starting in 13 countries, the software will ship in One UI 5 Watch, which will debut next month in the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic before reaching Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch5 series models later this year.

Samsung has teased that irregular heart rhythm notifications (IHRN) are headed to the Galaxy Watch6 series. Currently, the Galaxy Watch6 series is thought to consist of the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic with no direct Galaxy Watch5 Pro successor. In a press release, Samsung explains that it has received approval to roll out IHRN to 13 countries after the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certified its usage. For reference, the 13 countries in which IHRN will be available are as follows:

  • Argentina
  • Azerbaijan
  • Costa Rica
  • Dominican Republic
  • Ecuador
  • Georgia
  • Guatemala
  • Hong Kong
  • Indonesia
  • Panama
  • South Korea
  • UAE
  • US

Samsung will bundle IHRN within One UI 5 Watch, the first beta of which it released a few days ago. To recap, One UI 5 Watch is Samsung's version of Wear OS 4, which will likely receive its vanilla runout when the Pixel Watch 2 arrives this autumn. Samsung has also confirmed that IHRN will not be a Galaxy Watch6 series exclusive either. Instead, it will be available across all devices eligible for One UI 5 Watch, meaning the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch5 series.

In short, One UI 5 Watch will use IHRN to offer warnings about possible atrial fibrillation (AFib), the most common cardiac disorder. Samsung notes that IHRN will work alongside on-demand ECG, heart rate and blood pressure monitoring to 'gain even deeper insights into their cardiovascular health', although the latter requires calibration with a traditional blood pressure cuff monthly to maintain accuracy. One UI 5 Watch and the Galaxy Watch6 series are expected to debut at the end of July during Samsung's next Galaxy Unpacked event.
