New Nothing Phone (2) details confirmed as company promotes its sustainability credentials
Nothing continues to tease the Phone (2), its second smartphone and first with a Snapdragon 8 series chipset. As we discussed previously, Nothing will ship the Phone (2) with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which should give it the performance of last-generation flagships. Now, the company has outlined the smartphone's environmental credentials, which it discusses in a lengthy Twitter thread.
While Nothing focuses on how it has lowered the carbon footprint of its new smartphone compared to the Phone (1), the thread also offers more device details. Specifically, the Phone (2) has an aluminium frame, with which Nothing has included a 6.7-inch display. In other words, the Phone (2) will be about the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max and will have a 0.15-inch larger panel than the Phone (1).
Additionally, the Phone (2) will launch with a 4,700 mAh battery, a 200 mAh larger capacity than the Phone (1) has. In theory, a newer SoC should be more efficient, but our tests show that the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 sips more power across the board than the Snapdragon 778G Plus in the Phone (1). Hence, it remains to be seen how the Phone (2) will fare in battery life tests. Nothing has also promised to provide three major OS updates for the Phone (2) and a fourth year of security updates, which has fast become the norm for Android smartphones. Nothing will unveil the Phone (2) next month.
