Samsung Galaxy Watch6 series rumoured to feature new Exynos W980 SoC and narrow display bezels for top model
SamMobile reports that Samsung will move on from the Exynos W920 this year, which it has used in the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch5 series. For reference, the Exynos W920 features two ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores and a Mali-G68 MP2 GPU. In short, the Exynos W920 falls short of the performance of the Snapdragon Wear 4100+, let alone the Snapdragon W5 and Snapdragon W5+ platforms.
Supposedly, all Galaxy Watch6 models will ship with the Exynos W980. While SamMobile has not received CPU and GPU configuration details yet, it expects Samsung to build the Exynos W980 using newer 5 nm nodes for improved power efficiency. However, the Exynos W980 is only rumoured to offer 10% performance improvements over the Exynos W920.
In other words, the Galaxy Watch6 series may not operate any more smoothly than its Galaxy Watch4 or Galaxy Watch5 predecessors. According to @UniverseIce, only the flagship Galaxy Watch6 model will feature a rotating bezel like the Galaxy Watch4 Classic. Additionally, the same leaker claims that said smartwatch will contain a 'rather narrow bezel'. Recent certifications have confirmed that the Galaxy Watch6 series will have larger batteries than their direct predecessors too, as we discussed at the time.
