Samsung Galaxy S24 series: Details of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy and Exynos 2400 revealed in new leak
Samsung took to equipping its flagship phones with slightly modified versions of the standard SoC with the Galaxy S23 series and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy last year. That's apparently set to continue this year, as a new report now touts the existence of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy destined for the upcoming Galaxy S24 series, and provides some information about the chipset.
According to Roland Quandt of Winfuture, the Galaxy S24 series will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy in the typical Qualcomm regions. For those not in the know, all three S24 models will come equipped with that chipset in the US and Canada. The S24 Ultra will also feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy in all regions, while the S24 and S24 Plus will make do with the Exynos 2400 in regions like Europe, South America, and likely India.
Interestingly, though, it appears the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy may not offer a straightforward performance advantage over the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Going by the source report, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a faster Cortex-X4 prime core—3.39 GHz versus the regular SoC's 3.3 GHz—all of its other cores are slower. 100 MHz slower, to be exact. All of that considered, it'd be surprising if the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy performed any differently compared to the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 supplied to other OEMs.
As for the Exynos 2400, its prime core is said to be clocked at 3.2 GHz. The two Cortex-A720 clusters run at 2.6 GHz and 2.9 GHz respectively, while the Cortex-A520 cores hit a peak frequency of 1.95 GHz.
