Smartglasses: Third-generation Amazon Echo Frames with moderate media echo

When one thinks of smart glasses, the first thing that likely comes to mind is spy films or science fiction films in which the protagonist observes and analyzes the outside world via an augmented reality interface. While the Snap Spectacles and the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses come close to this idea, the Amazon Echo Frames, even in the third generation, are far from this ideal.

Amazon Echo Frames are glasses with open-ear headphones

The Verge compares the Amazon Echo Frames with the similarly named Bose Frames, which are also essentially glasses with integrated headphones. So there is no augmented reality display or camera, leaving only the options of listening to music, making phone calls via the inbuilt microphones or making voice requests to Alexa.

The inconspicuous look of the Echo Frames, which look like normal glasses, and the different models of glasses available have been the subject of praise. However, PCMag criticizes the lack of bass reproduction, which is due to the headphones' open-ear system. The mids and highs are said to be good, although wireless in-ear headphones such as the Amazon Echo Buds offer the same functionality, including Alexa support, at lower prices.

Currently only available in the USA

The costs of the Amazon Echo Frames depend on the model and the configuration (e.g. 'Prescription Ready' or 'Blue Light Filtering'): the Echo Frames Carrera Cruiser cost around $315, while the Echo Frames have a starting price of around $195.
