Suunto touts its new Sonic headset as "Born for Outdoor Sport" mainly due to its "True Bone Conduction" design delivered in a "comfortable" way thanks to the "premium" titanium wire and silicone involved in their construction.
Accordingly, eagle-eyed Suunto fans might mark them down as another version of the Wing headset; then again, the OEM claims that the newer open-ear accessory comes with "a newly designed sound transducer to allow for higher sensitivity, enhanced bass effect and a reduction in noise leakage".
On the other hand, it is rated for 10 hours of battery life where its Wing counterpart might get 20; IP55 ingress protection where the Wing has IP67; and the ability to exclude the noise associated with winds of 15 kilometers per hour (km/h) compared to 30km/h in the Wing for call quality.
The Qualcomm QCC3044-powered Sonic headset also lacks the safety LEDs of the Wing. Nevertheless, the former is the slightly lighter headset of the 2 at 31 grams (g), and are also the cheaper at $149 on Amazon.
The Sonic comes with its own distinctive lime colorway in addition to black, whereas the Wing is still $199 in its choice of red or black right now.
