LG StanbyME Speaker launches as a Bluetooth speaker that doubles as a soundbar
LG’s StanbyME is a rather interesting product lineup, which, till now, mainly consisted of a Rollable Smart Touch Screen and a portable TV. The newest addition to the series is the StanbyME Speaker. At the core, it’s a wireless speaker that pairs perfectly with the company’s smart display.
The speaker comes with a mounting cradle that allows you to set it up with the display’s adjustable stand. In such a setup, it acts like a soundbar for the smart touchscreen unit. Even though the connection between the two is done via Bluetooth, LG’s Wow Orchestra comes into play for this setup and allows audio output from both internal and external speakers. This, according to LG, offers a much more immersive listening experience.
But that’s not the only function of the StanbyME Speaker. It can also work like a standalone portable wireless speaker. What’s more interesting is that it weighs 2.2 lbs and has an IPX5 rating, both of which make the unit a decent pick for outdoor listening.
As for the battery life, LG says that the StanbyME Speaker can offer up to 16 hours of runtime. Sound-wise, the Bluetooth speaker comes with 20 mm tweeters that are paired with a racetrack-shaped woofer. With dual passive radiators, it claims to deliver 20 watts of power.
Besides that, the StanbyME Speaker supports an iOS and Android companion app, which allows you to customize the built-in LED lighting and more. The Bluetooth speaker is now available in the US and Korea at $200 (available on Amazon), but LG has plans to debut it in other markets.
