Bowers & Wilkins unveils Series 700 Signature premium speakers with exclusive finishes and sound upgrades
After the older 700 S2 series was offered in a Signature edition, the latest speakers in the 700 S3 series are now also available in a new Signature edition, either in Midnight Blue Metallic or in Datuk Gloss, a finish that combines real wood veneer with a protective and high-gloss coat.
The equipment is largely the same as the regular models, but there have been some minor upgrades that are intended to improve sound quality. For example, the 705 S3 Signature bookshelf speaker still has a decoupled carbon dome tweeter with a diameter of 25 millimeters, which sits in the tube at the top edge of the housing, but the grille cover has been redesigned to be even more acoustically transparent.
The 165 millimeter continuum cone bass/midrange driver has gotten an improved suspension for more controlled bass. The larger Bowers & Wilkins 702 S3 Signature combines the same 25-mm carbon tweeter with a 150-mm continuum FST midrange driver and three 165-mm Aerofoil cone woofers, allowing bass to be reproduced down to 28 Hz (-6 dB). A higher quality crossover promises clearer sound, while the terminals for connecting the amplifier on this model are made of brass.
The HTM71 S3 Signature is intended to be perfect as a center speaker in a home cinema, using a 25-mm tweeter, a 130-mm FST midrange driver and two 130-mm woofers. Like the 702 S3 Signature, the center speaker benefits from improved woofer driver systems and advanced capacitors.
