Huawei FreeClip launch as innovative open-ear TWS buds
Huawei has unveiled a whole new "fashion-forward" form-factor for its latest personal wireless audio offering. The OEM aims to make its take on the rising open-ear trend as comfortable and effective as possible by inventing the FreeClip, accessories designed to look more like certain types of jewelry in order to stay in their intended location.
The novel bud is the only one on the market that might require a potential buyer to learn some outer ear anatomical terms. It is made of 3 parts: the "Acoustic Ball" that sits in the concha, the "Comfort Bean" that should go behind the ear entirely and the C-bridge that connects the 2.
It is a short multi-wire cable reinforced with a nickel-titanium memory allow for "incredible" durability and flexibility that, despite its relatively short length, is backed by Huawei to "snugly fit the majority" of outer ear helices. Similarly, the Acoustic Ball shape has apparently been tested against "10,000+ global human ear data" points for optimal fit and comfort.
Accordingly, Huawei backs the FreeClip for "pleasant open-ear audio" with "feather-light" ergonomics and a "Secure Fit" that are, moreover, actually switchable between left and right ears for a change. The buds obviously cannot boast ANC, but are equipped with AI-powered call clarity and dual-device connectivity.
Despite their distinctive loops, a pair of FreeClips fits into a case of fairly conventional size and shape, rated to deliver total listening time of up to 36 hours and to fully charge in as little as 40 minutes over USB-C after that.
The Huawei EarClip will be released in matte black or purple in Europe for an RRP of €200 or £180 later in December 2023.
