Mobvoi promises Christmas miracle for the TicWatch E3 and TicWatch Pro 3 with Wear OS 3 updates
It appears that Mobvoi is finally ready to upgrade the TicWatch E3 and TicWatch Pro 3 series from Wear OS 2.xx builds. To recap, the company announced in summer 2021 that its Snapdragon Wear 4100-based smartwatches would receive an upgrade from Wear OS 2 to Wear OS 3. Not only did that not materialise, but it missed a subsequent adjusted release window that should have happened in Q3 2023.
Allegedly, Mobvoi has started rolling out Wear OS 3 to the TicWatch E3, TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, TicWatch Pro 3 LTE, TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra and TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS. However, we cannot see any evidence of this having happened yet. With that in mind, Mobvoi claims that it could take until the beginning of 2024 for Wear OS 3 to reach all eligible smartwatches.
Either way, Google and Samsung have now moved onto Wear OS 4 via the Pixel Watch 2 (curr. $294.99 on Amazon) and Galaxy Watch6 series, respectively. Both companies have updated their previous models to Wear OS 4, too, with no sign of an equivalent update for the TicWatch Pro 5. In other words, Mobvoi's product stack will remain stuck in the past even after it finishes updating the TicWatch Pro 3 and TicWatch E3. Arguably, Fossil is no better, with Wear OS 3.5 reaching Gen 6 smartwatches last month.
