Huawei has announced in advance that the FreeBuds Pro 4 will be the first of its wireless earbuds to launch with HarmonyOS Next out of the box. The operating system (OS), hyped as a fully in-house suite of software (like iOS), might make it easier for the new flagship peripherals to connect with other devices such as the new Mate X6 and MatePad Pro 13.2.

The FreeBuds Pro 4 are now slated to debut as custom Huawei Sound-tuned TWS earbuds with capacitive touch controls on their pin-striped, AirPod-style stems. Furthermore, the OEM has announced that they will launch as the brand's first-ever HarmonyOS Next peripherals.

The OEM asserts that the software will make its cross-platform connectivity even stronger, more secure and more private than ever before as it has been developed from the ground up, as opposed to earlier versions of HarmonyOS said to be based on the Android open-source project (or AOSP).

In addition, the Pro 4's FreeBuds app should be fully native - so long as it runs on devices such as those of the upcoming Mate 70 series of smartphones or what might be an updated MatePad Pro 13.2.

Huawei's latest announcement also explains why the successors to the FreeBuds Pro 3 (currently available on Amazon.com) will play a role at the impending Mate Brand Festival scheduled for November 26, 2024.
