Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4 debut with world-first 2.3Mb/s lossless audio and Intelligent Dynamic ANC
The FreeBuds Pro 4 are slightly short, stocky AirPod clones much like their forebears, albeit with a new Silver String design that highlights their new Huawei Sound logo.
The OEM asserts that the mark stands for "cutting-edge" TrueSound driver and planar diaphragm technology that should make the earbuds' sound more "authentic" and immersive, with up to 14 hertz (Hz) of bass and a "triple-adaptive EQ algorithm" that should adapt to variables such as the bud's position in each ear in real time.
The Pro 4s are also apparently tuned by music conservatory experts and are rated for "standout" Intelligent Dynamic ANC augmented with "three-layer" memory foam ear-tips.
They are also backed to transmit 48kHz/24-bit Hi-Res lossless audio at a rate of 2.3Mb/s (compared to 1.5Mb/s in the average high-end wireless earphone, according to Huawei at least) - however, the apparently ground-breaking feature only works when the new flagship FreeBuds are paired to its own OEM'S latest Mate X6 foldable smartphone.
Huawei has made no mention of HarmonyOS NEXT on their new global product page, although the buds are rated for Dual Device Connections. They come in a case with a "more durable and impact resistant than ever" ceramic accent, rated to keep the FreeBuds Pro 4 going for up to 33 hours per charge.
However, for all their potentially cutting-edge new features, the buds also support the outdated Bluetooth 5.2 standard and are IP54-rated for limited dust- and water-resistance (plus the case has no IP rating at all).
Huawei has yet to set a price for its new wireless earbuds worldwide, although the FreeBuds Pro 3s are available on Amazon for $184.90 right now.
