Xiaomi EV global roll-out to start small in select regions
Xiaomi's SU7 is now a certifiable commercial success in its native China, and now has its headlights trained on customers outside that country, according to the latest reports.
It has been seen in international settings in the past, albeit mostly as a demo vehicle at MWC and as the Ultra model that broke records around the Nürburgring. However, that might change over time.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had stated that the company aims to put its cars on European roads by 2030 in the past - now, the company is reportedly making moves to make that goal a reality. It is currently forming teams of the staff members that might help it set automotive sales up in regions besides China, at a speed that reportedly indicates the expansion of the OEM's EV concern in earnest.
Its new target locations have yet to be specified, although they are said to be those in which Xiaomi already operates as an OEM for other products such as its popular Android smartphones and, as such, has existing sales structures, including physical stores where the cars may or may not also be distributed one day.
Then again, Xiaomi's ambitions as a global car-marque is also likely to face hurdles such as making its smart car interface compliant with different national and regional safety standards.
Nevertheless, the company might indeed have enough brand recognition in various markets to ensure that the SU7 - and possibly the upcoming YU7 SUV - make it as EVs driven around the world one day.
