Xiaomi's first-gen EV has turned out to be a roaring success with over 100,000 units delivered since its debut in February 2024. Now, the OEM has confirmed that its second car will be its first SUV rather than another sedan.
The YU7 does look like a potentially seven-seater version of the popular SU7 in its initial press shots. Xiaomi has reportedly partnered with CATL to design its battery, although its specs remain unknown at this time.
The OEM has revealed that the SUV is to have front and rear motors of 220kW and 280kW respectively, for a total output of 508kW or 681 hp.
The YU7 is projected to have a speed limit of 253 kilometers per hour, (km/h, or ~157 mph). It is also estimated to have a mass of 2,405 kilograms (kg, or ~2.405 tonnes), a 3.0 meter (m) wheelbase, a height of 1.6m, a length of ~4.9m and to be ~1.9m in width.
Xiaomi expects to be able to hold a YU7 launch event in mid-2025, and is thought to price it at between 250,000 and 350,000 yuan (~$34,000 and $48,000), albeit mostly because Tesla's Model Y SUV currently goes for around the same in China.
